Wondering if your company should be on social media, or if now would be a good time to start using videos to promote your business or services? The answer is yes and yes– especially right now in the middle of a pandemic when we are spending more time online.

Not only are we spending more time online, but social media platforms have become a primary source for news and entertainment. Social media usage increased by 10.5% in July 2020 over July 2019, with 46% of women and 41% of men reporting they are spending more time on social media. Search engine usage still outranks social media use, but that may be changing as well. Consumers are increasingly turning to social media to learn more about brands, products, or services they want to buy and younger audiences in particular tend to prefer social media over search engines.

In recent months, social media platforms like YouTube and TikTok have also surged in usage, as both a source of entertainment and as a creative outlet. Remember Shakespeare’s famous line, “All the world’s a stage, and all the men and women merely players…” Well, it would seem a greater number of us are now directors,  producing our own content!

As a digital marketing agency, we have long understood the power of video in online advertising and marketing for reaching broad audiences and driving consumer engagement. The pandemic and self-isolation have only heightened this power. Creating humorous videos for TikTok is one thing, though; creating and distributing professional videos to promote brand awareness, drive your marketing or support a cause is something else entirely.

If you are considering adding video content to your marketing mix (which we believe you should) or updating existing video content, you need to understand how COVID has impacted the way we can safely film and produce videos, as well as how the pandemic has impacted what consumers want to see.

Here is what we are doing to protect our video clients and our film and production team during the pandemic:

COVID-19 Videography Safety Measures

Our videographers must be symptom-free at the time of filming or the shoot will be rescheduled.

All video crew members wear masks on location.

A six-foot distance is maintained at all times.

Hands are carefully sanitized at least once per hour on location.

All gear is sanitized prior to the video shoot.

We also edit pre-existing footage, or new footage for clients who choose to self-shoot, removing contact altogether! In these cases, of course, we provide expert tips on lighting, background, shot angles, and sound.

Video Trends During Covid-19

So, what is resonating with consumers during the pandemic? People still want videos that inform, entertain or move them, and they are interested in how companies and brands are handling the pandemic: how are they protecting customers and employees, what they’re doing for their communities, what solutions they’re offering to help the rest of us stay safe.
